Meet the Team

The core of PopCult is a tight network of ComiCulture influencers and tastemakers. Our reach is wide, but our focus very tight, and together we provide turn-key project management solutions for almost anyone's geek needs. Consider us your pop culture task force, able to reach any and all corners of the geek world. Everyone here is not only a creative mind, but entrepreneurial, has a working fanbase, and has access to that fanbase. Our individual areas of expertise are converging more every day, and now through PopCult we have a formal way of working together to exponentially feed off of each other's abilities and connections to better serve clients.

R.H. Stavis: Video Game Ninja-Scribe

Optioning her first screenplay at the age of 18, RH Stavis launched a career in writing for over thirty television show segments, and saw her novel Daniel's Veil debut at #1 on the Amazon.com's Ghost Top Sellers list. She then made her biggest splash in 2000 when she was tapped to write the back story of uber hot video game heroine Lara Croft of Tomb Raider fame, with a readership of over two million people, for which RH was interviewed by NPR. Later her creation Demons of Mercy was published by Marvel Comics and is in development as a video game for the XBox 360.

Currently RH is rising even higher in the gaming world, working on a top secret project yet for a major developer, continuing to rapidly expand her fanbase each year - something that won't be hurt by upcoming photoshoots and interviews with Playboy and Maxim magazines.

Shawnimal: the Toy-Master

Shawn Smith is the creative force behind Shawnimals, and started the company before he even knew it by watching cartoons, drawing pictures and playing video games as a kid. Fast forward to a job at EGM magazine as a game reviewer, Shawn decided to leave and focus on his first love: Art. Shawnimals were born shortly after from Shawn's pop culturally-inspired aesthetic: Simple, compelling character designs, strong narratives, and a healthy dose of humor. With partner Jen Brody and its staff, Chicago-based Shawnimals has grown quickly from its humble beginnings, now with a Nintendo DS game based on its Ninjatown brand, a number of plush and vinyl toys, and much more.

Murs: Hip Hop's #1 Comic Fan

With over 10 records under his belt, Murs has recorded tracks with Snoop Dogg, Will I. Am and Cee-Lo, been featured on Activision's Tony Hawk video games, and is a co-founder of the Paid Dues hip hop touring festival. Garnering over 100,000 MySpace and 16,000 Twitter followers, Murs is truly a king of the underground hip hop scene. Performing 50 city tours three times a year his ability to directly reach fans is amazing, and there's something they all know — Murs LOVES comics. The themes resonate in his music, blogs and interviews. We're happy he's an artist and entrepreneur, but being a true "geek" is what makes him the perfect fit for PopCult.

Josh Blaylock: Pop Culture Renaissance Man

Blaylock is the founder of one of the most innovative top ten comic book publishers of the decade: Devil's Due Publishing. After bringing the 80s back when the powers that be laughed, DDP laughed all the way to the bank and the company has since published numerous licensed comics such as Family Guy, original titles like Hack/Slash and Mercy Sparx, and has a number of properties in development with the Hollywood crowd. Now Blaylock's latest brainchild is PopCultour, which is the pinnacle event Devil's Due has been working towards.

Also a writer and artist, Blaylock has written G.I. Joe, Transformers, Voltron, and is currently penning his own creation Mercy Sparx. He can also be found performing live art at night life events in Chicago, and as part of PopCultour. Josh is also a part owner in G.O.O.D. Music label mate Malik Yusef's Sat-Morn Apparel

Michael D. Olmos: Filmmaker

Michael's passion for film brought him to Chiapas, Mexico to document the suffering of the indigenous people of the region. Running from military backed death squads while trying to bring food to refugees and protecting the footage they had captured on film, the trip, which had begun as little more than a summer adventure, became a life changing journey that cemented his belief in the power of filmmaking.

Michael's feature script "After Hours" has achieved a top position in the IFP Film Market Emerging Narratives, and his first short "The Last Winter" was an official selection of the Los Angeles Latino Int. Film Festival. Dark Horse Entertainment produced his first feature film "Splinter" (a selection in several festivals and winner of Best Editing at the NY Latino Film Festival), and in 2009 Michael directed "Division Day" from the feature film, "Bedrooms."

Olmos currently serves as Vice President of Motion Pictures for Academy Award Nominee Edward James Olmos' Olmos Productions and is in development on several projects.
